Good Morning!

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! We had a great week last week. Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it out to Meet the Teacher Night. It was so nice to meet all of you!

In Language, we are still learning about vowels and adjectives. We are learning how to write a proper sentence using finger spaces, Capital letters and punctuation. We also practiced our word wall words.
Next we are going to discuss how our background knowledge and how making connections helps us understand the text we read.

In Math we are finishing up sorting and patterning this week. Our next math focus Number Sense and Numeration. We will be looking at how to make numbers , ways to represent numbers and we will also be practicing our counting by 2's, 5's, 10's.

A couple of upcoming dates to watch out for:

Tuesday September 29th- Parent council meeting in the evening

End of Week 2

Hello Again!

Another busy week has passed and it seems like we might finally be getting back into the groove and getting used to our routines.

Last week we started our WWW. As I have said before, the word wall words come out on Monday. I will post them both on the blog and on twitter and the students will be writing them in their agendas.

In math we have started to look at patterns and sorting objects. We will continue working on it this week.

Tomorrow night... Tuesday September 22 is Curriculum Night. It starts at 6:30 in the Gym.

This is an information session for the parents.. it is not very entertaining for the children so if you can keep them at home that would be great! If you are unable to find someone to look after the children and they do come with you, I will have some colouring they can do in the hallway.

I will have a handout for all families and I will be going over our classroom routines and other little things you might want to know about Grade 1.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow night!

My name is Ms. Lawless and I will your child's teacher this year! I can't wait to start!!!!

A little bit about me:

I have been teaching Grade 1 at St.Cecilia since the school opened two years ago. Before that I taught grade 4 in Kanata and Grade 1 and 2 at another school in Barrhaven.
Teaching is not just my job but my passion. I have spent much of my summer preparing for the year ahead so my students can have a fun and successful year.

Social Media:

I use twitter A LOT!!!! The students LOVE to get me to post pictures and I will often tweet out things we are doing in class.

******Please Please Please consider checking off yes to social media in the verification sheets that will be sent home from the school.*******
***I do my best NOT to post faces (sometimes it does happen) nor do I ever put names associated to pictures for the safety of the students. If you do not want your child's face in twitter you can write me a separate note in the agenda and I will make sure their face never appears.
A lot of my communication is done through social media, our board encourages it and I would hate for you child to miss out on anything. So please consider checking yes to social media.
