St. Cecilia Lenten Project
Thanks to those families who have sent in a donation for our Lenten Project. The money raised will benefit refugee families who have come to live in Ottawa as well as families in Africa who don’t have access to clean water. Our children are learning that everyone at any age can make a difference in the lives of others in need. A very important life lesson!
Here are the new word wall words for this week:
1. name
2. our
3. teacher
4. goes
5. has
In Math, we are studying 3D solids and how they differ from 2D shapes. 3D solids are not flat like 2D shapes. They have different names to describe their properties (e.g. 2D Shapes: sides and vertices, 3D Solids: edges, vertices and faces). We will continue to explore which 3D solids can slide, roll and stack. This week, we will walk around the school looking for examples of 3D solids in the real world and create a pic collage of our findings.
In Science, we will continue our exploration of various objects and the materials that they are made of (e.g. a pencil is made out of wood from trees, our chairs are made out of plastic, our school is made out of bricks etc.).
Holy Week Project
The Holy Week Project is made up of a variety of students in different grades. Some grade 1’s are singing a worship song. Some grade 3’s are involved in presenting the Stations of the Cross. A group of grade 4’s are dramatizing the Last Supper and two different grade 1 and 4 classes have worked on special Holy Week art to display in the foyer area.
************Our class and Mrs. D'Ettorre’s class are singing a worship song. You are welcome to come and see it but we have changed the time of the presentation. You can come see your child sing the song the song on Thursday, March 24th at 10:45-11:45am. Our song is the last part of the Holy Week presentation.*********
Waste-Free Wednesdays
Waste-Free Wednesdays are going pretty good. We are trying to BUMP UP the number of waste-free lunches. It would be super if we could increase the number of waste-free lunches each Wednesday. This initiative helps our children understand the importance of pitching in to help reduce waste in our environment. We regularly talk about where items get put into each day (e.g. paper towel, straws, yogurt containers, plastic wrap, food scraps etc.) I monitor the garbage container daily to ensure our children know where their items go. They are incredible at doing this! I am so proud of our class for their efforts! We are recycling superstars!!!
